History
Established in September of 1997, our founders are Kansas City area residents who have achieved success in the community and felt compelled to return some of their blessings back to those less fortunate.
Our vision is to be “committed to providing those in need the resources to advance values and quality of life in our community.”
Our mission statement is to “serve those in need, personally live the values, and perpetuate the legacy.”
The “interesting” name was derived from the idea that actions that used to be considered abnormal are now considered normal. We want to get back to basic values and social mores.
All funds are raised through donations, fundraising activities and membership dues.
100% of our membership dues, contributions and net proceeds from events goes to our beneficiaries.
We find our beneficiaries through “pillars of the community.” These are individuals who have access to those in need. For example: school counselors, church administrators, social workers, school nurses and any of our patrons who see a need.
Accreditation
.The Abnormal Society is a 501 c (3) corporation, registered in the state of Kansas. We have had a monthly meeting, without fail, since 1997, and all minutes are filed. Our taxes are prepared by local CPA’s.
Patrons
Patrons consist of all walks of life, not unlike our beneficiaries, they believe in the phrase “there but for the grace of God, go I”. There is a common desire to help those less fortunate. Click here to become a member.
Anonymity
:We have no direct contact with our beneficiaries. Our pillars initiate a request and a committee determines the viability and communicates directly back to the pillar. We will not accept a direct request from a possible beneficiary. Our mantra echoes St Matthew 6:3: “But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”
